About

Khren means horseradish in Russian.  That’s not why I named this site khren, though.  The word has more colorful meanings than a spicy sauce; when paired with certain prepositions, such as khren s toboy (s toboy means “with you”) it means “go fuck yourself”.  Russian is such a great language.

I am interested in many things.  One is Russia and the Russian language, as evidenced by my ability to swear in Russian using prepositions and words for garnishes.  I also think I’m funny, or at least like to write what I think are funny things.  In real life I am a government worker bee in Washington, DC, focusing on issues surrounding Russia and the former Soviet Union.  I am not going to mention where I work, not because it is a secret, but because I swear and make many crude comments on this site, which may reflect poorly on me at work.  I am married and live with my lovely wife in Alexandria, VA.  We have a dog, too, and once I get into Flickr and add Flickr functionality to this site, he’ll be prominently featured there (Christ, why haven’t I done this yet?).  In my spare time, which I no longer possess in spades, I play video games and slowly teach myself various computer languages, Internet tools, and other sorts of geekery.  These three things, Russia, video games, and geek stuff will be the prominent features of this site.

I have an incredibly obsessive personality and a short attention span, which means that I will be unable to stop thinking about or doing something for days, then forget about that something in favor of my next big obsession.  This has resulted in many half-finished, half-assed projects and my possession of a limited knowledge about many different things.  This personality trait and its results will be another strong feature of this site, as I, often and unfortunately, pretend that I know a lot more than I do and, rarely but hopefully, expand my knowledge of the things about which I know so little.

Though this page is terribly vague, I hope that more will become known about me as I build out the site with more content and that you’ll enjoy my ranting.  Even if you don’t, I will, which is more important to me in the end.
