Nothing

I had big plans to get things done with the site this weekend, but a few things got in the way:

  1. Tub of macaroni salad – Much of my weekend was either spent eating from The Tub or recovering from the effects of eating from The Tub. I love macaroni salad, and The Tub makes me so happy.
  2. Video games – I wanted to write a lot about video games this weekend, but instead I played them a lot. I know this is a reasonable thing to expect of me, but I’m still a little disappointed that I played so much and didn’t get anything done.
  3. Real life – My GRE date is fast approaching, so I really need to buckle down and prepare. I did some of that this weekend (today, mostly) and even took a practice test: 530 Verbal, 640 Math. I was surprised both by the ease of the math section and by how much basic math I remember. The verbal part sucked, and I really need to work on that section, mainly with pacing. Reading comprehension questions take me too long.

This doesn’t mean that I did no work on the site this weekend. I wrote quite a bit, but didn’t finish anything. I wanted to finish some sections that I had almost done and instead created more half-done sections. The new content isn’t that exciting, so don’t be that sad. I’m golfing in Florida (GOLF!) next weekend, so new stuff needs to get done this week. I can’t promise anything, but I’ll try to post the gaming content. I promise to at least keep you comprised of my inactivity throughout the week on this page.

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

Disclaimer: I’ve never been good at first person shooters. I was always the guy in Bond shooting the wall who everyone sniped to pad their score.

The Metroid Prime games aren’t strictly FPS, because you can lock onto targets and there’s a lot of exploratory elements to the game. All the same, there are enough FPS elements to make me pretty bad at the game. This is why I’m so proud with my latest streak of boss victories in Prime 2. I beat the Alpha Blogg, Grapple Guardian, and Chakka (who’s a bitch) all without dying. I’ve still got some beastly bosses yet to fight, but I’m excited to try to keep the streak alive.

I’ve also started to play an oldie but goodie again: Heroes of Might and Magic III. It’s so deliciously turn-based, it’s hard not to love. The only problem with it and its turn-based glory is that each game takes fucking forever, especially the way I play, which is to build up giant armies (this takes many turns) so that I end up winning by a landslide.

Happier

Things have been busier at work, so I haven’t had much time to tinker with the site this week. This is sad, because I’ve got a lot of half-finished stuff to go up. My goal for this weekend is to finish the section on gaming. I’ve decided to just admit to the world that playing video games is a major hobby of mine (and if you want to argue with me about video games being a hobby, I’m more than willing to do so in the alley behind my apartment. Just remind me beforehand to sharpen my knives) and thus should talk about it. So if you don’t like video games, you can probably ignore the site for the weekend.

I also wanted to apologize for the somber post on Tuesday. I’m not really that upset about work. Well, that’s a lie. I am that upset about work, but I’m generally very excited about life. I need to work harder at finding a new job and unwinding after a boring/crappy/exhausting day at this one. I’ve decided that TV is a bad way to accomplish this because it does nothing to get me thinking again (this should not come as a shock to anyone familiar with the medium). My new plan is to read, write, run, or even game for awhile after work each day so that I can get back into active-thinking mode and have a semi-productive evening.

Death at work

Initial reactions

I showed my wife my first jab at a website this evening, and her comments ran as follows:

“reading”
“grimace”
“half-laugh”
“suggestion to put a moving picture of a guy tap-dancing on my site, because she once had such a guy on her site, and it was awesome”
“I sighs deeply”
I guess the site needs a lot more work to become even a little entertaining. However, if all else fails, there’s the tap-dancing GIF.
